Music

The Church Choir, which normally sings at the 11 am Sunday service, is made up of an octet of professional singers. They sing a range of different mass settings and anthems appropriate to the liturgical year, with a greater selection of music during festivals (especially Christmas). Those who simply enjoy singing, of any standard, are welcome to join the Chamber Choir, a group of enthusiastic amateurs who sing Choral Evensong approximately once a month, as well as at special services for Advent, All Souls and Palm Sunday. With a repertoire stretching from music of the 16th Century through to contemporary anthems and responses, the choir has sung at Southwark Cathedral (as you can see above!) and has been the guest choir at other parish churches. The Chamber Choir sings under the direction of Michael Cayton, the church’s Director of Music (see above). 

The choir’s manager is Judy Booth, who says:

I am always interested to hear from those wishing to join the choir, and we currently have vacancies for sopranos, tenors and basses. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at 7pm, and Michael’s sense of humour means that serious practice is interspersed with jokes and lots of laughter.
