Funerals and memorial services
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”
We are here to support you during the most difficult times. Believing that love is stronger than death, and that nothing can separate us from the love of God, we will walk with you as patiently and sensitively as we can in your grief. And though we act, as a church, out of our own Christian faith, we will not put words into the mouths of others – you are welcome to come to us, however tentative your connection to conventional Christian faith. We will meet you where you are, in respect as well as compassion.
When a loved one dies, we remember them, we give thanks for their life, we entrust them to our loving God, and we comfort one another in grief. St John’s Wood Church started its life as a funeral chapel, and it continues to be a beautiful place in which to hold a funeral or memorial service. We are able to conduct a funeral for anyone who has resided in the parish or whose family has a pastoral connection to the church; they or you do not need to have been a regular attender of church. We will use our experience and wisdom to help you arrange a fitting funeral or memorial service for your loved one, and all our musical resources are available to you. You are always welcome to stay in touch with the clergy after the funeral as you continue to grieve. Every November, we hold a service particularly for those who have lost loved ones in the previous year.
