Lent Course: How can we read the Bible? Second Session

19 March, 2025

Open bible

The recording of the second Lent talk is now available. In this session, we discussed various “historical-critical” ways of reading the Bible. We looked at how the text of the Bible came to be in the form in which we now read it, including the written sources and oral traditions which underlie it.

The audio recording can be found (along with Anders’ recent course on Paul’s correspondence with the Corinthians) on our Podcasts and audio courses page.

The next session of the Lent course will be on Sunday 23rd March. This will be an in person session in Church in which we will read biblical texts and build on what has been discussed in the online session. There is no need to have listened to the online session. The next online talk will be at 8pm on Tuesday 25th March. We will look at “redaction criticism” which focuses on the way biblical authors put together their texts from the sources available to them. One area of great interest is the composition of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke). The code for every online session is the same:
